Friday, March 21, 2014 Diary

10.00 a.m. Leaving Hsinchu on a mission: join the uprising against the president, the KMT and ECFA, making the voice of all my foreign friends heard who stand behind the protesters whose goal is forcing the government to scrap the "black box agreement" with China and stopping the KMT traitors and the Chinese invaders from pulling the ECFA, their Trojan Horse into Taiwan! Going with me: Lena Luo, a former student of mine whom i asked to record everything and to cancel my classes in Hsinchu in case of arrest and jail.

11.00 a.m. Walking among the huge crowd of protesters, shaking hands with friends old and new from all over Taiwan, feeling the energy and determination to resist and stand up against our Communist China -style arrogant and undemocratic government at all costs. Rubbing shoulders with men (see picture of guy in miliary uniform / camouflage) who would rather be dead than red (under Chinese rule). Feeling at home among those kindred spirits and ready to fight and die with them for our free Republic of Taiwan if need be!

12.00 a.m. I march over to the entrance of the Legislative Yuan. A strong and grim looking police force guards the building. I think of the consequences of ECFA, of Taiwan on its way of becoming a second Hongkong and a surge of fury and disgust with regard to our president and his clique makes me flip out. I position myself in front of the police squad and keep shouting: Mr. Ma and all those traitors behind him should go to hell! I shout and give them double thumbs down until DPP friends pull me away fearing the worst - a clash and arrest! A British free lance journalist and Taiwan resident shoots the scene.

1.00 p.m. I stand beside a make-shift stage where i listen to a speech by a Taiwanese who is studying for a Ph.D in law in Germany. He gives a fiery speech and shouts: Does Germany have a street named after Adolf Hitler? No, i have not seen a single one! But here in Taiwan every city has a "Zhong Zheng" road (Chinese name of Tschiank Kai Shek)!!! I shake hands and make friends with him after he descends from the stage. The people around immediately egg me on to speak and put a mic in my hand.
I start to get butterflies in my stomach, i realize that it's kind of a historic moment. It has never happened before and will most probably never happen again. A moment too big and frightening for a simple German language teacher from the province who is supposed go on a stage in the capital before a huge crowd and talk politics! No time to hesitate or chicken out, thousands of eyes are on me - it's now or never! Let's go! I give a short impromptu speech which I end with a slogan and a thunderous echo from the crowd: fei he - fei Ma - fei fumao han Guo Min Dang de zheng tse (scrap the nukes - impeach the president - get rid of ECFA and his KMT gang)! A TV station journalist walks over to me and invites me to an interview in two weeks.

15.00 Return to Hsinchu pumped up with energy, hope and optimism i've picked up from the movement. Not all is lost! Not yet! Taiwan still has lots of great and fearless folks who get deeply involved in societal issues and are ready to fight governmental bullying, arbitrariness and despotic rule
! It is true more people are still mobilizing for Hello Kitty, Yellow Little Duck, fireworks, Lei Shen Japanese chocolate and similar nonsense. But the descendants of the 228 incident victims and other heroes / freedom fighters are among us and are our only guarantee for reigning in and keeping away the Chinese dragon who is already heavily breathing down our neck for the time being!

Long live our free Taiwan and to the garbage dump of history with mainland Chinese imperialists and their Taiwanese KMT allies!!

P.S. 1 My speech is on my FB

P.S.2 In case someone still has doubts about China and
her intentions - to defeat Taiwan by hook or by
crook, by trade or by war - here a reminder:
a female student of mine came recently back
from traveling all over China. A soldier who
had just finished his military service confid -
ed her: All our weapon systems and training
have only one goal: how to bring Taiwan to
its knees in the shortest possible time and
with a minimum of our own losses!
